Character Name: Sakura Matou
Canon: Fate/stay night
Age: 18
Personality: Some people would describe Sakura as a caring and energetic young woman, the kind of person who can always smile readily. While soft-spoken most of the time, she can become surprisingly lively and stubborn when it comes to things like cooking or making sure Shirou takes care of himself. She might be more on the shy side, but the enjoyable daily life at the Emiya household is partly because of her. However, other people would describe her as silent, gloomy, and stoic, the type of person who only speaks when spoken to first and never smiles in front of other people. Things like hanging out with friends after school or enjoying herself in hobbies are activities she never partakes in, only looking at her peers with an expressionless face. Despite these being nearly opposite images, they both make up who Sakura truly is, and neither are strictly fake or a mask to cover something else. Having a complicated past and life has naturally made Sakura into a rather complicated and complex person.

Sakura is very kind, having a strong maternal instinct and if left unchecked could probably spoil someone rotten with her care. She's always eager to help if she can, and she'd rather put herself to work and help out rather than wait and be served. Rather than blame others for mistakes, she often blames herself instead; however, she often focuses too much on blaming herself instead of learning from the problem and improving. Still, she tries her best to help out others and not to be a burden for them. However, she's also very shy; it can take a bit before she really starts to warm up to someone, and she'll be somewhat guarded and hesitant to speak with them until she is. When she's around people she doesn't know that well, she hardly ever smiles. This part of her has slowly started to change ever since she saw Shirou attempting an impossible high jump a few years ago. Even though it was impossible, he kept trying to, and his determination inspired her. Ever since then, she wanted to become closer to him, and eventually fell deeply in love with him.

Despite her soft-spoken nature, she can be surprisingly stubborn and determined. She often insists on cooking or at least helping with it, and she'll even push herself when she's sick to continue cleaning the house. When Sakura decides to do something, she throws herself into it completely, no matter what it is. This includes everything from trivial things like cleaning to being determined to defeat her grandfather (an impossible task) and/or have him kill her so as to free Shirou from the burden of protecting her over his ideals. Also in contrast with her shy personality is how blunt she can be. While she doesn't think of herself as similar to her older sister Rin in the slightest, both of them can be incredibly direct and blunt. Sakura is often more polite about it, but she'll easily point out a mistake someone has made or how they're expression is clearly an evil smile or one of ill intent.

After all the pain and suffering she's experienced, Sakura has a great inner strength. She can endure just about anything, no matter how terrible or painful it is. While dying certainly scares her, and she doesn't like getting hurt to begin with, she's unfortunately very used to being hurt by others. For a long time, she'd been resigned to the torment she has to face, and she endured it with great stoicism. Even after she has found ways to be normal and happy, her inner strength remains the same. It takes a lot to truly get under her skin. When it comes to people she doesn't like or hates, it doesn't matter how much suffering they put her through; she'll remain in tact through it all. After all, if it's someone she hates, she's prepared to be treated terribly by them. Her grandfather Zouken, the instigator of all her suffering, even admits that he will never be able to break Sakura because she hates him so much. It's not exactly healthy, but it's the coping mechanism she's developed to have survived all this time. At this point, only something like a betrayal from someone she truly cares for can break her.

Sakura doesn't like herself in the least and has very low self-esteem. In comparison to someone like Rin, whom she admires greatly, Sakura considers herself to be slow, ungraceful, and untalented. She has very little confidence in herself in most things, and after all the things that have been done to her, she thinks of herself as unclean and cowardly. Despite being miserable and hating her life, and despite many attempts to, she could never bring herself to commit suicide. She's terrified of dying alone, and even after she knows that her continuing to live will mean the deaths of hundreds of innocent people, she's still too scared to die by herself—and she hates herself for it. At one point when Shirou almost brings himself to kill her, she says that she would be okay if he was the one to end her life, and that it was really the right thing to do; however, she still knew just what to say to make Shirou hesitate and doubt his choice. She knows how to be manipulative, and she despises her own cunning for making the person she loves choose between his ideals or her. She knows it's selfish for her to want to live still when she poses such a threat, but she can't help but wish for it regardless.

Unfortunately, Sakura can be rather resentful. She's the type of person to bear grudges if she feels someone has wronged her, and in Heaven's Feel, this escalates to the point where she has a grudge against the entire world. She resents Zouken for torturing her, her father for giving her away to begin with, and Rin for never coming to save her as she so desperately hoped. Those feelings are all part of a bigger anger though; for a long time, she feels that the world itself is unfair to have put her through everything she went to. All she had ever wanted was to be treated kindly, but for eleven years, her family tormented her and delighted in her pain. As she often keeps her darker, more negative feelings to herself, these thoughts tend to consume her. Still, she often thinks it's better to keep it to herself rather than let someone see how ugly her feelings are at times. That also means she often gets so caught up in her thoughts, she doesn't see or recognize the actual good that's around her.

This all underlies a simple wish though. Sakura wants to be treated kindly, to be loved, and to live a normal life—what should be simple things to have are unfortunately difficult to acquire for a time. By the end of the story, these things are finally starting to change. She knows now that there are people who love her, and their support gives her strength. Despite feeling incredibly guilty over the people she killed, unknowingly or otherwise, she knows that she has to take responsibility for her actions. After becoming the administrator of Fuyuki City, Sakura is trying to gain more confidence in herself. She's determined to change and eventually be able to smile in front of other people.
Three Fears: losing her loved ones, dying, being hurt
Holiday Fun Facts: If your character has some kind of holiday tradition, tell us here. Maybe they always get KFC for Christmas, or don't celebrate it and go out for Chinese food, that kind of thing.
Regains: her hair ribbon, her mystic code (that giant sleeve thing), her school uniform

Plot:
Choose Your Role: Either!! Sakura would kill in self-defense but also for things like protecting the people she cares about and being able to return home.
Would you be alright with dying in the first case?: We understand that not everyone wants to be deathrolled first, so if you would rather see your character die quickly or don't mind being the first to discover the afterlife, let us know.
Anything else? I'd rather not, thank you!
